Created for my Illustration course, this piece is centered around the Confessions online article ‘The Loneliness Epidemic: Why We Feel More Isolated in a Hyper-Connected World’ by Aiman Shahid.
I wanted to create an effect that made it seem like everyone was on their own personal island. I decided to use the phone for the island base not only to hone in on the fact that electronics have playing a significant role in amplifying the effects of the loneliness epidemic, but also because a large amount of social interaction that we used to have on a daily basis has been interfered with due to technological advances. When we no longer have the means to meet up with people face to face, we lose that feeling of togetherness, regardless of the communication that can be had over the phone.
